Antique long guns - Whitney Arms Co of Whitneyville, Connecticut, Whitney-Scharf Model 1886 Lever Action Rifle, circa 1887, caliber .44-40 WCF, blued steel lever trigger guard with comfortable finger rests and screw lock to keep the lever from opening, flat steel receiver with sliding loading gate, serial number located under loading lever, case hardened hammer, steel tang signed "WHITNEY ARMS CO. PAT'D DEC 21. 1886," American walnut stock with steel crescent moon butt plate, 23.25 inch round barrel, early German silver "knife blade" front sight and adjustable rear sight, barrel top is marked "WHITNEY-ARMS-CO.-WHITNEYVILLE-CONN," s#45. The last firearm to be produced by the late Eli Whitney's eponymous firearms company before it was sold off to Winchester by Eli Whitney Jr. in 1888 after making just shy of 2000 examples of this lever action, this being #45 is an early example and listed on the Eli Whitney museum and workshop serial number list. Rifle measures 42 inches in length and weighs approximately 9 pounds, includes hard plastic protective gun case. NOTE: No in-house shipping available. CONDITION:
Good action; excellent overall cosmetic condition, good bore with light oxidation, strong rifling, metal surfaces have aged a pleasing dull brown and gray, small dings and fine scratches are scattered about walnut stock, receiver and barrels; trigger guard and butt plate show little wear with several small dings and scratches.
